Logically Illogical: Information and Insight into Autism

9:00 am - 10:30 am
St Albert Public Schools, 60 Sir Winston Churchill Ave, St. Albert, AB T8N 0G4, Canada

Featuring: Ros Blackburn

Ros Blackburn is an adult with autism. At three months old she appeared withdrawn, isolated and very much in a world of her own. At 18 months she was diagnosed very severely autistic but with average intellectual ability. Now at 54, Ros lectures nationally and internationally giving insight into her own experiences and the care and education practices she has observed. In spite of the severe limitations imposed by her condition, Ros displays great courage (and a strong sense of humour) in facing her fears and tackling life’s challenges.

This session is for families of St. Albert Public Schools who have a family member with Autism. Registration is free but we are limited to 40 attendees so pre-registration is required.

Hockey Academy Showcase/Fundraiser for Ben Stelter Foundation

8:15 am - 2:30 pm

This is a very exciting event supporting the Ben Stelter Foundation. The Hockey Academy student-athletes will have the opportunity to enjoy a different experience, while giving back to the community, and supporting this foundation that is very important to us. Students will be broken into teams and will play a true game in the morning for grades 4-12. The culmination will be a grade 9 game in the afternoon versus the staff.

Schedule:
Game 1: 8:15am-9:45am: Group 4-5 Game (Mark Messier Arena)
Game 2: 8:15am-9:45am: Group 4-5 Game (Troy Murray Arena)
Game 3: 10:00am-11:30am: Group 6-7 Game (Mark Messier Arena)
Game 4: 10:00am-11:30am: High School Game (Performance Arena – formerly Go Auto)
Game 5: 10:15-11:45am: Grade 8 Game (Troy Murray Arena)
Feature Game: 12:30pm-2:30pm: Grade 9 vs. Staff (Performance Arena – formerly Go Auto Arena)

Our hope is to fill the Performance Arena for the grade 9 game with students from the various schools, parents, and families. We want to make this an experience that the student-athletes, especially our grade 9s, will not forget and continue on this tradition for years to come.

As stated before, this event will also be about giving back to our community so admission into the games will be in the form of a donation to a very special cause, the Ben Stelter Foundation. Ben, a student who attended Ronald Harvey and fought cancer courageously, will be the honoured namesake of this event. A minimum donation of $2 will be the admission for the games this day. All donations will be given to the foundation.

To make a donation directly to the Ben Stelter Foundation, please click here.
