
Stanley Haroun
Trustee, St. Albert Public School Board Trustee
Stanley Haroun was first elected to the Board of Trustees in 2017 Municipal election. He was re-elected to the Board of Trustees in 2021. Since his election in 2017, he served as the Vice Chair of the Board for several terms and served as the Board’s Chair of the Advocacy Committee. He also served on several additional Board committees and served as the board’s representative on Parents’ Councils in various schools and as Board’s representative on external boards. He was appointed by the Board to negotiate the local table contract with the local Union of Alberta Teachers Association in 2024.
Education, designation and current business
Stanley holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the field of Psychology, Social Work and Philosophy, is a Registered Social Worker and Mental Health Therapist, Stanley Completed the University of Calgary’s School Board Trustees Governance Program. He is the President of Stanley Haroun Group of Companies.
Career
Stanley Has extensive experience in the field of Psychiatric Social Work and Mental Health Fields. Following his practice as a Psychiatric Social Worker in England, Stanley became the Chair of the first Out-Patients Department at Lakehead psychiatric Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ontario, serving a large catchment area in NW Ontario. He was instrumental in founding and administering the inaugural integrated Department of Mental Health Clinics, Child Welfare Services, and services for individuals with special needs with the Alberta Government. Stanley and a group of Mental Health and Addictions professionals established the IMPACT programs for impaired drivers in Alberta. He also played a key role in the initial stages of transferring Child Welfare Services for Indigenous children to local indigenous authorities in Alberta.
Volunteer initiatives
Stanley’s volunteer initiatives have included: Chair of St. Albert City Council’s Affordable Housing Advisory Board, a founding member and Chair of the Non-Profit St. Albert Housing Society and Friends of St. Albert Housing Society, the founder and Chair of St. Albert Task Force on Vandalism and Youth issues, Vice-Chair of St. Albert City Council’s remuneration and benefit committee, founder and Chair of the Non-Profit St. Albert Theatre Arts Guild (STAGE), Founding Member and Director of the Non-Profit Calgary Champions Career Centre for the Rehabilitation of Mental Health clients and Physically and Mentally challenged individuals.
Hearing Tribunals
Stanley is currently a Chair and member of the Ethics and disciplinary Hearing Tribunals and the Complaints Review Committees of the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Personal
Stanley and his wife lived in St. Albert for the last 40 years. They have two children and two grandchildren. His two children benefited from the excellent K-12 education provided by St. Albert Public Schools Board, known then as St. Albert Protestant Separate School Board.
