Academic Challenge Program

Does your child demonstrate characteristics associated with being gifted, such as superior intellectual achievement, high motivation and interest, verbal proficiency, strong problem-solving ability, logical thinking and creativity? Would they benefit from a supportive a learning environment, which includes positive behaviour supports and social participation?

Our Academic Challenge Program (AC) enables gifted students to achieve excellence by providing differentiated instruction and strategies to support their intellectual, social and emotional needs. The AC program allows students who are gifted to have opportunities for thinking and learning in ways that enhance their individual needs through meaningful programming.

To qualify for the AC program, students must have a current psychoeducational assessment in which they have scored in the superior range on an individual cognitive assessment (preferably the WISC-V).  They must also demonstrate characteristics that would have their current school, in consultation with their parents, recommend the AC program as an appropriate program for them.

GOALS (Gaining Occupational and Life Skills) Program

The GOALS program supports students' individual needs and maximizes their personal strengths. School staff will work in partnership with students and families to ensure successful student-focused planning. Inclusive-minded programming focuses on students being engaged and connected to their school and community. Within the GOALS setting, each student is encouraged to build the skill sets, opportunities and experiences they will need to be prepared for a successful transition into adult life. We focus on three foundational pillars of academics (literacy and numeracy), engagement and wellness to ensure each student’s program is individualized to their learning needs and identified personal interests.

Learning Assistance Program

The Learning Assistance Class supports students who have average cognitive abilities and have significant delays in classroom achievement. The goal of this program is to improve academic skills and support students in developing strategies that will allow them to manage the goals of returning to the regular program, as they progress to grade level expectations. This program has a primary focus on literacy and numeracy skills in a smaller classroom setting with an increase in targeted instruction specific to individual needs. Students require a recent psychoeducational assessment including a cognitive assessment and achievement test (preferably the WISC-V and WIAT-III) along with the recommendation from their current school in collaboration with the parents to qualify for this program.

This allows for the teachers and support staff to be able to provide individualized and small group instruction in the areas of literacy, numeracy, engagement and life skills that are appropriate for the student’s academic, social and physical development.

Please note that program location will be determined based on the individual needs of the students.
