Facilities Services Re-Entry Update Jan. 7, 2022


The health and safety of our students and staff is a priority and we continue to take steps to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission for students and staff. Steps include good hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning practices, use of masks and well-maintained ventilation systems.


  • Ongoing daily disinfection of high touch points
  • Disinfection of individual classrooms on a daily basis
  • Cleaning and disinfecting practices and products as per applicable
  • AHS health standards/guidelines


  • MERV 13 filters will continue to be used. If MERV 13 filters are not available due to supply shortages, MERV 8 filters would be the back up.
  • Filters are changed every 2 months at a considerable cost
  • HEPA filters are not currently being used in our building ventilation systems.
  • For the most part converting to HEPA filters would require significant reworking/replacement of the existing ventilation/mechanical systems (for example an approximately $500,000 retrofit for a small school)
  • Air changes in schools occur approximately 4 to 6 times an hour
  • Increased run times for ventilation systems will continue (e.g. 4:00 a.m. until 6:00 or 8:00 p.m.)
