New rules for yellow bus riders

As of August 4, 2020
A school bus is a small space with little room for physical distancing. When students head back to school this fall, new safety measures will be in place on yellow buses.

  • If your child doesn't feel well, they cannot enter the bus. Please use the AHS screening tool to determine if your child can ride the bus and/or attend school.

  • Grade 4-12 riders MUST wear a mask at all times while on the bus. Two reusable masks will be provided for all students. Parents may wish to purchase/make extras.

  • Riders should avoid touching any surfaces unnecessarily and keep their hands to themselves.

  • A seating plan will be developed for each bus. These plans will group siblings together, and ensure riders who get on the bus first will sit at the back. Those who board later will sit towards the front.

  • Children must keep a 2-metre distance from other riders when waiting at the bus stop.

  • If a driver is sick, there may be changes or delays in the bus schedule. Please sign up for notifications through the BusPlanner portal to keep up with route changes or cancellations.

  • Drivers will wear a mask.

  • No one will sit in the first row of seats behind the driver.

  • High-contact points on buses will be wiped down between runs.

Please note that with the current conditions, these rules may change at any time.

BusPlanner

Transportation Services uses a suite of transportation products called BusPlanner. Parents who have registered their children for yellow bus service will receive instructions to obtain access to the transportation portal and the "Where's My Bus?!" link. Highlights include:
  • All info, including your child's route number, bus stop and pick-up and drop-off times are online.
  • The system is GPS-based, which means you can see exactly where your child's bus is at any time. This has the added benefit of less reliance on manual updates and notifications.
  • The online system will provide an estimated time of arrival at your child's stop.
  • If schedules or routes change during the year, everyone on that route will receive an automatic notification via email (parents must sign up for notifications in BusPlanner to receive these notifications).
