Academic Challenge

Bring out the best in your gifted child with our Academic Challenge program!

Is your child intellectually gifted? Are you seeking a more challenging learning environment for them?

Academic Challenge (AC) might be right for your child if they:

  • seem disinterested in regular classwork;
  • may finish assignments ahead of classmates;
  • are looking for leadership opportunities at school;
  • demonstrate high motivation, strong problem-solving ability, logical thinking and creativity;
  • have very specific areas of interest, which sometimes interferes with schoolwork and/or peer relationships; or
  • are interested in pursuing Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes in high school.

Our AC program offers an enriched curriculum to help keep your gifted child engaged and motivated to reach further. AC encourages students to:

  • follow their interests;
  • learn at their own pace;
  • work with like-minded peers;
  • use a variety of resources to conduct research; and
  • learn creatively.

The program offers unique learning opportunities that challenge your children and feed their curiosity and passion for knowledge and growth.

AC is offered at Sir Alexander Mackenzie (Grades 4-6) and Hillgrove (Grades 7-9). The majority of AC students then enter academic programs in high school – either International Baccalaureate at Bellerose, or Advanced Placement at Paul Kane.
